Children's Book Drive

Image
After we return from the holiday break, students in my advisory group will be organizing a children's book drive to benefit the Vicki Soto Memorial. We will be collecting books appropriate for children in grades K-6 until Friday March 31. All books collected will be brought to the Vicki Soto Memorial office in Stratford, CT and given to teachers and classrooms in need. The homeroom who collects the most number of books will win a breakfast. Please help us spread the word! I have included a copy of the flyer, one you can post to your social media page and a Facebook cover photo that you can post above your profile photo.
Our Donors Choose project for Oil Pastels expires on January 15, and we still need to raise $300 more!  Thank you to all of those who have donated and shared our link! Please continue to do so :-) Donors Choose Oil Pastel Project

Donors Choose Permission Slips

Dear Parents, Over the next week I will be sending home permission slips with students. The permission slips are to allow me to take photographs of students using the products we receive from Donors Choose for their website. Donors Choose requires teachers to send photographs of the students using the materials, and artwork produced with the materials, (along with an impact letter from myself, and at times, hand written thank you notes from the students) for those who donated money towards our projects to view. The photographs taken will be of students in groups working with the materials, and I will never publish their names in the photos or on the website. If you allow your child to be photographed, please fill out the form and send it back to me as soon as possible as it assists with the process of receiving products from Donors Choose. I have also included the link for our Donors Choose page attached for you to view our page. I appreciate all your assistance. Miss Stevens

Thank you

A big shout out and thank you to the parents who have been sending in newspaper and supplies in with their children. I really appreciate your help! :-)

Progress Report Grades

Progress report grades close on December 9. If you have any late/missing/incomplete work, please hand it in ASAP! Emails will be going out to parents today until next week if any work is missing from Power School. Work handed in after the original deadline will have points taken off for each additional date it is late, unless you have already spoken to me.

DONORS CHOOSE

There are only 5 days left to give to our Donors Choose project for art books for our classroom. If the remainder of the money is not funded by the deadline, we risk losing the money that was donated generously. Please take a moment to visit our classroom Donors Choose page and sharing it on your personal social media page. Every $ helps to reach our goal. Mid-November Update

Grades 6, 7 and 8 just completed their Color Wheel projects and Keith Haring unit. Grades will be finalized shortly on Power School. Grade 6 students are beginning Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) paper-mache masks. Parents, please send in old news papers with your children for this project! Thank you, Grade 7 students are beginning Micrography (word) drawings. If students choose to bring in an image to use for their work, it must be printed as large as possible to fill an 8.5" by 11" piece of paper, Grade 8 students have begun their Positive/Negative Insect designs and will be creating Tessellation kaleidoscopes after. Please bring in used long paper towel rolls to create the kaleidoscopes. Check out our class Instagram page for photos of students' work :-)
